Security Providers - What You Should Be Looking For

broken image

Reputable security providers will have a proven track record. To find out about the reputation and ethics of a security provider, ask other businesses that have used them. Is the Security Provider listed in your country as a Registered member of a security organization? Unless the Fortinet España security association is approved by authorities in your country, this adds accountability to the service and will provide some comfort for your insurance company.

What type of insurance do they have?

You must ensure that your chosen security provider has service and public liability. If they sell security products, they should also have products liability insurance. The coverage ranges from $10 to $30 million depending on the service they offer and what you are protecting.

Is the largest always the best?

Not necessarily. Some large security companies use inexperienced workers and offer little support for their guards. If you're submitting a tender to a security provider or reading the proposal from potential providers, make sure you carefully read and evaluate their proposal.

Here are some things you should be paying attention to, Is there a specific type of security guard service they offer? Are they available 24/7? Is it part-time?

What training, experience, and background do guards have?

• Although it may seem obvious, do all security guards have a current police clearance.

• Are they all First Aid certified? This law requires it.

• Are they skilled in managing emergencies such as fire, flood and crime?

• Is there a succession plan if you have a chief guard or security supervisor who is designated as a singular security supervisor?

• Does the chief guard/security supervisor have access to all areas and hours?

• Can their integrity and background be assured? Is their background checked beyond the mandatory police clearance? Are they or their family members convicted of a crime?

• How do they handover information, shifts and other pertinent information in the event that an incident occurs? How does this happen?

• What backup and checks does your security provider provide in the event that their guards are ill or do not show up at work? Is your security provider reviewing the performance of their guards on a regular basis?

• What kind of 'goodwill services' would the company offer, such as guards being available for longer periods of time or extra guards being provided at short notice?

• Will the security company change a guard if requested? What is their procedure?

• Is there a rotation of guards that may not be familiar to the site or will they be more reliable?

• Ensure you read and understand the security agreement. Also, be aware of the circumstances that would permit you to terminate the contract.

• Make sure that the guards being provided are sensitive to cultural differences and are culturally-aware. It is a good idea to specify that your company needs security guards that are culturally sensitive and that this is included in the security contract. Ask if it is possible...
