This article is intended for computer users who have several computers and a broadband Internet connection and wish to share the connection with others so they all have Internet access. This is the first of four articles on how to set up a secure wireless network. Part one addresses the reasons you need a secure network and how others can exploit your data once they are connected to your network. Although, sophos España there are many good articles that explain how to set them up, this article will give you the why and not just the how. You will be able to handle any problems that may arise if you understand the reasons behind what you do. You can skip this part if you don't want to know the details. It is recommended that you set up a wireless network that is secure and offers the most security.
Why should you secure your wireless network? There are many reasons to secure your wireless network. We will explore them all. These are just a few of the many reasons I am concerned about.
• Intruders have the right to use your Internet connection for no cost.
• Your Internet connection can be used by intruders to download pornography and music.
• You are responsible for illegal activity on your Internet connection.
• Intruders have the ability to access all your computers and all the information they contain.
• Spam, illegal or fraudulent emails can be sent to your IP address by intruders. You are responsible.
• An intruder can access any data that is transmitted over your network, including bank account information and personal information. They also have the ability to view usernames and passwords.
This list could go on. But it should be enough to make you anxious enough to try. Your network may not be secured. They can find you and connect with the connection without any effort.
It is more difficult to assess your network if it is not secure. While I recommend going all out to make it as secure as possible, if your children are coming to and from school and need to access your network, you might want to set up a secure network that has minimum security. Here are two examples of wireless network designs that I have created and how to put them into practice. Both are built from a network with minimal security and then strengthened. The first step in establishing a minimum-security network is to create it. These are the items that will be included in your minimum-security network:
• Secure your router
• Connect wired and wireless clients with your network
• Monitor who is connected to your network
This is the final part of the series. It explains how to protect your data in case someone gains access to your network. Protect yourself by doing everything possible.
